Editor's Diary: Rolex Vancouver Grand Opening [PHOTOS]

The largest Rolex boutique in North America is now open, and it's settled quite nicely into its home at 1119 Alberni St. in Vancouver. I attended the grand opening on Thursday, Oct. 27—about two weeks after it opened its crown-capped doors—and joined the crush of people eager to celebrate the iconic Swiss-made timepieces.

After a glass of Moët and speeches by Rolex dignitaries and boutique operator Sassan Pourfar of the Vancouver-based Global Watch Company (GWC), I sat down to try on some of the women's selections and fell in love with this gold and diamond Pearlmaster. At a price tag of $52,000, I'll have to add it to my wishful wishlist, but I did notice my husband taking notes.

The 2,750-square-foot space boasts décor inspired by the water and the sea, which feels utterly appropriate once you observe the throngs of besuited luxury lovers lining up to test out Oysters, Yacht-Masters and Submariners from the brand's sporty Professional series.

Nestled at the base of the Shangri-La Hotel, the boutique is also in grand company, joining brands like Prada, Burberry, Escada, Saint Laurent, Moncler, Versace, Brunello Cucinelli, Strellson, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Louis Vuitton, Hermes and Tiffany & Co. in Vancouver's bustling 'Luxury Zone'. Or as I like to call it, the Danger Zone. —Kelsey Klassen
