Pretty Pits

Looking to make the switch to natural deodorant? You’re not the only one. Despite more and more consumers' desire to avoid aluminum, finding a natural formula that’s effective is no easy task. Don’t sweat it; we put some of our favourite deodorants to the test to find seven top picks that are anything but the pits. —Vicki Duong and Noa Nichol

pits

for detoxing. When it comes to making the switch to a more natural deodorant many of us worry about the awkward transition between switching formula types. Worry no more: Nala Care Detox ($29) was made for sweating it out. Infused with energizing peppermint and cleansing charcoal, this stick is formulated to sweat out toxins and help your body's acclimatization process.

pits

for on-the-go. If you’re active and find yourself reapplying deodorant multiple times a day, a spray deodorant may be ideal for your busy lifestyle. Jason Dry Spray Deodorant ($15) sprays continuously while dispensing product that goes on dry and doesn’t leave any residue, making it ideal for post sweaty workouts.

pits

for sensitive skin. A baking soda-free formula may be your best bet to combat skin irritation. Routine's cream options ($28) list coconut oil as their first ingredient, meaning you can expect an ultra-nourishing formula that can also be used as a moisture kick on cuts, scrapes and anywhere else that is in need of nourishment.

pits

for discolouration. Did you know that shaving your underarms can make you more prone to in-grown hairs and skin discolouration? Consonant Dealkalizing Deodorant ($14) smoothly glides on with the help of cocoa butter while helping prevent discolouration that can be caused by shaving. Available in a lightly scented and unscented formula, this deo also contains clay and arrowroot powder to help absorb perspiration.

pits

for a luxe touch. It’s all coming up roses with Dr. Hauschka’s Rose Deodorant ($29). A little different than other deodorants, this formula applies via roll-on with a combination of rose and jojoba oil which provides an elegant fragrance. We love that it contains a low alcohol content so it doesn’t dry out your underarms while keeping odour at bay.

pits

for floral fans. Rosy Pits Daily Deodorant by Megababe ($18) is made with a blend of natural ingredients, including sage and green tea (no baking soda in sight), and helps prevent odour-causing bacteria from forming on the skin. This stick is alcohol-free, paraben-free and goes on smooth and clear; the fresh, rosy scent will have you sniffing your pits all day long!

pits

one for everyone. With specialized options for women, men and teens, Native's formulas (from $10) are free of aluminum, parabens, sulfates and other nasty ingredients and come in TDF scents: coconut and vanilla, cucumber and mint, sea salt and cedar, and watermelon.
